So you have downloaded or created your own AutoCAD pattern. Now you want to use it. But how?
There are two ways to do this: you can combine your custom pattern with acad.pat or add a support file search path. I will recommend the last one. You may lose your custom pattern if you somehow need to reinstall AutoCAD or your Windows account corrupts. Or you may just make your acad.pat corrupt.
How to load custom hatch pattern file in AutoCAD, simply way is Support file search path and when activate hatch command, you see it in the custom pattern list. How to Export and Import custom hatch pattern in AutoCAD View Larger Image Generally you can export a drawing with its fonts, texture, materials, references, data links etc using e-transmit but unfortunately, it can’t export custom hatch pattern file (PAT) with the package and you have to add it in the package separately. Generally, to fill an area with a pattern hatches are used and there are plenty of ready-made hatch patterns available in AutoCAD but if you want to use your own custom hatch pattern then you can make it using a type of simple code and also using an express tool called Superhatch. If you place all your custom hatch in your custom folder, you can add support file search path. Open AutoCAD options (type OP then enter). In files tab, below support file search path, add your folder. Click OK to accept this changes, then when you activate hatch command, you should see it in your pattern list.
Combine with acad.pat
You can find acad.pat in support folder. It should be something like C:UsersYOURWINDOWSACCOUNTAppDataRoamingAutodeskAutoCAD XXXX – EnglishRXX.0enuSupport. Find acad.pat and open it with text editors like notepad or notepad ++. Do not use Microsoft Word. I suggest you make a backup of this file before you start to work.
Open another instance of Notepad and open your custom hatch. Select all, then copy it using [Ctrl] + C. I use chainlink pattern from DotSoft website.
Paste it at the bottom most of your acad.pat file.
There is a comment that if you add user-defined hatch below that section, then when you upgrade your AutoCAD this file will be migrated correctly. Pinnacle dvd recorder software download.
However, I still avoid this method.
Now save this file. You should immediately see your custom hatch in pattern list.
Add support file search folder
To use predefined hatch patterns in AutoCAD, select Predefined from the Type drop-down list at the top of the Hatch tab in the Hatch and Gradient dialog box. This selection sets the stage for choosing the hatch pattern. You specify a predefined hatch pattern in one of two ways: Pattern drop-down list: If you know the name of the hatch pattern. Jun 18, 2015 With over 300 hatch patterns is added the more than 70 hatch patterns existed for each AutoCAD version. Hatch patterns library will help to Architects, Engineers to have more correct choice of materials and hatch in his drawings. Some hatch patterns pictures as below.
If you place all your custom hatch in your custom folder, you can add support file search path. Open AutoCAD options (type OP then enter).
In files tab, below support file search path, add your folder.
Click OK to accept this changes, then when you activate hatch command, you should see it in your pattern list. If you can’t find it, you may need to change pattern type to user-defined.
If you use hatch dialog box, you can change pattern type to custom or user-defined.
I always use the last method and avoid the first one. So I never really have a problem or may be benefits of the first method. If you use the first one, why do you choose to use it? Will you recommend it instead of the last method?
Adding Hatch Patterns To Autocad 2014
Issue:
This article describes how to install custom hatch patterns in AutoCAD using PAT files.Solution:
Windows OS
Copy the custom .pat files into the default Support folder (listed below) that AutoCAD uses to find hatch patterns. Added .pat files will cause hatches to be listed under the User Defined or Custom hatch menu within AutoCAD.
- Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 10. C:Users<USER>AppDataRoamingAutodeskAutoCAD 20xxRxx.x<LANGUAGE>Support
- Windows XP. C:Documents and Settings<USER>Application DataAutodeskAutoCAD 20xxRxx.x<LANGUAGE>Support
- For AutoCAD 2009 and earlier, the default location is: C:Program FilesAutodeskAutoCAD 20xxSupport
- The AppData and Application Data folders in the above paths are hidden folders (see How to turn on hidden files and folders on Windows).
- The default path is specified in the Support File Search Path listed under the Files tab in Options. It is usually the first one shown, pointing to the current user folder.
- If there is no longer a .pat file of an existing hatch used in a drawing, use the express tool SUPERHATCH to try and bring in the custom hatch pattern.
Mac OS
- On any drawing, type HATCH and press Enter.
- Click the pull-down in the Hatch visor for Patterns and click Open Library.
- Click the drop-down arrow and select Add Patterns.
- Browse to the location of the custom .pat files, select them, and click Open.
- Custom hatch patterns files will automatically be copied to the following locations:
- AutoCAD for Mac 2016 and later. ~Home/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/AutoCAD 201x/Rxx.x/roaming/@<LANGUAGE>@/Support/Hatch Patterns
- AutoCAD for Mac 2011 to 2015. ~Home/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/roaming/AutoCAD 201x/Rxx.x/<LANGUAGE>/Support
Note: Manually copying the .pat files into the specified location will also work.
